About our program

For 50 years, St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency in Grand Junction, Colorado, has trained broad-spectrum family physicians to serve under-represented communities. Surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Western Colorado, our program combines rigorous, hands-on training with an ethic we call “casual excellence”—where high standards meet a culture of respect, balance, and authenticity. Join us and fulfill your career vision in a place where purpose meets adventure.

Our program seeks to provide training for residents and students in full-spectrum family medicine, caring for patients of all ages, genders and backgrounds. We provide this training in the context of high-quality, hands-on patient care experiences using biopsychosocial, interdisciplinary, evidence-based approaches. Residents graduate with the skills necessary to practice in rural underserved areas where healthcare resources may be limited, while maintaining flexibility to pursue their desired career paths.

A message from our program director

Hello! I’m excited for the opportunity to share about the St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency and why I love working here!

The medicine you will learn here is top notch but my favorite thing about being part of this program is our approach, which I have termed “casual excellence.” We are a fun-loving group that doesn’t hold too tightly to hierarchy but provides, teaches, and expects excellence in clinical medicine.

Our faculty and residency administrative staff are passionate about helping you achieve your goals in residency.  Our clinic staff are the best!  They are passionate about providing excellent care to our underserved patients and helping resident doctors find their groove in clinic.

If this sounds like your kind of learning, we hope you apply to work with us!
